Glasgow’s Theatre Royal is the venue for the World Premiere of a new adaptation of William Golding’s classic tale, Lord of the Flies.
In this new dance adaptation, the action is transferred from deserted island to deserted theatre. A group of schoolboys find themselves abandoned and with no adults around they start to create their own rules and build their own civilization.
As time passes, the rituals become more disturbing as dark superstitions take hold. Order finally breaks down and blood is spilt as Ralph, Piggy, Jack and the boys grapple with the ‘beast within’ and the story builds to its thrilling climax.
In March 2009 the Creative Learning team at the Theatre Royal Glasgow joined forces with Re:bourne, the education strand of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, to develop an idea that was big, bold and ambitious in its aim of getting boys involved in dance.
With support from Creative Scotland the project has brought professional dancers and local young people together on a journey that started in school gym halls and will end on the grand stage of the Theatre Royal.
The local young men starring in the show are:
• Michael Anderson (Glasgow)
• Chibembo Banda (Clydebank)
• Nathan Bonner (Dumbarton)
• Matthew Docherty (Glasgow)
• Elie Harerimana (Glasgow)
• Fraser Johnstone (Linwood)
• Jordon Jones (Renton)
