Rock opera world premiere to be held in Glasgow

The world premiere of new rock opera The Count of Monte Cristo will be held in Glasgow at the end of next month.

Written by Pete Sneddon, the new production will include 26 new compositions, bringing to life Alexander Dumas’ tale of revenge.

Audiences will be taken on the journey of Edmond Dantes’ life; from happy-go-lucky sailor boy, to betrayed prisoner and finally to the rich and powerful Count of Monte Cristo.

They will follow Edmond as he plots to ruin the men who destroyed his life.   See why he cannot forgive Mercedes his childhood love for marrying one of his betrayers and discover why his need for revenge holds no bounds.

Narrated by Scottish Theatre legend Charlie Kearney, the production uses a combination of Pop/Rock/Jazz and traditional musical theatre.

The show is not only written by Pete Sneddon, he also plays drums, bass, guitar and piano  within the soundtrack and plays the lead character of Edmond on the stage.

Eastwood Park Theatre in Giffnock is the venue for the world premiere and it takes place from Tuesday 28 September until Saturday 2 October.
