Royal Mile Set review
Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th August
Rating: * * * * *
I was aimlessly wandering up the Royal Mile to see what was happening when I heard vocals which grabbed my attention.
It turns out it was a young group of performers called Indigo Co from Redditch…and I was instantly impressed.
Their show, Sector 17, is a brand new musical premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year.
Sadly it is only running for one week until Saturday 14th August at Greenside.
Written by Sam Barnes and Jack Gayler, it is set in the future and tells the story of a world divided into sectors, following the great wars. One of the sectors, number 17, is struggling to sustain its own survival and is the last civilised sector on Earth… or is it?
The story follows William, who, under the strict regime of Mac and his guards, is about to expose a trail of deception which will alter his destiny and the destiny of those long given up for dead.
The show features a live band and a talented young cast with fantastic vocals which are goosebump-inducing.
I’m also a sucker for good harmonies and the cast had these down perfectly.
I look forward to receiving a copy of the cast recording which I can then play on repeat in the car and sing the songs at the top of my lungs unashamedly.
One thing is guaranteed, these songs will be stuck in my head for a long time to come.
I kindly let a few people hear some of the songs and they have been whistling, humming or singing them too, so good work on that part guys!
Sector 17 is a very promising show which made a great first impression yet can only get better. I very much hope it returns to the Fringe next year.
Here is a taste of the show from the cast performing on the Royal Mile.
