A one-man show which tells us the story of 14 year-old Tim and his sleeping in for school, his crush on his music teacher and finding love, the hopeless romantic that he is.
It also tells the story of 24 year old Tim, stuck in a dead-end job with a demanding boss who requires his coffee to be made just so.
Tim sees a girl at work and it takes a lot of time to figure what to say to her. When he does, he finds out she is due to go travelling. Should he get involved knowing this?
Written and performed by Thomas J Millington, the stories from past and present are told with a lot of energy and enthusiasm and are peppered with some songs on acoustic guitar.
The venue of the Den at Zoo Roxy is extremely intimate and with a small crowd you feel like you are intruding in the performer’s personal space a little, yet at the same time it brings the audience closer to the performer.
It is notoriously difficult for a one-man show to keep an audience interested for the entire running time but Millington had the likeability factor and his awkwardness upon finishing the show and audience members applauding only heightened this.
Heartwarming and thought-provoking, His Name is Tim is a story about growing up and history repeating, with the child in us all never quite leaving.
